Stepping Stones

I was minding my own business last night when I suddenly realized that I never posted about this quilt!  I had put pictures on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/birdinhandquilts) but never got around to posting a blog.  So, without further ado, here you go.

This quilt was a Christmas order for my customer’s 7 year old nephew.  She wanted a quilt that wasn’t too “little boyish” and would possibly even last him until college.  While flipping through one of my favorite quilt books, Quilting Modern, I found the Stepping Stones quilt.  I modified the layout and size so that it would fit on a twin bed and chose a color pallet that looked just right for a boy of any age.  DSC06028DSC06030This is the side view showing the cute little added “stone”.  I quilted it using two different styles.  For the navy blue areas I free motion quilted with matching thread.  For the “stone” areas I used a geometric, angled quilting style using thread that matched the color of each “stone”.  The binding was comprised of strips of navy blue and patterned fabric used in the quilt.  DSC06020IMG_0477

I hope you all like it as much as I do.  I’m also thinking that a baby sized version of this would be gorgeous.  I’ll add it to my project list.
