Traveling Man

This quilt order is for a little boy who is due in March.  He is going to be awesome.  Not only because his birthday will be in March (like mine!) but also because his parents and big sister are awesome.  For his baby quilt his mommy already had the fabric picked out and asked me to put together his quilt.

The center panel is a precious “traveling print” (my words) with lots of cool tourist destinations and modes of transportation, all done in teal, red and gray.  So gorgeous.  The two fabrics used around the border are a red print and an aqua and gray polka dot. Perfect accents.  Love this quilt and so great for an awesome baby boy’s nursery.

The backing fabric is gray flannel.  It makes for a perfect quilt weight in my opinion.

I quilted the center panel with wavy lines and quilted the border with swirly loops.

It measures 35″ x 45″ and is the perfect size for a cirb, toddler bed, tummy time or to be hijacked by an adorable big sister who wants to snuggle with it while watching the Wiggles.

Benny’s Quilt

This quilt is for Benny.

I had the opportunity to get to know Benny’s mom while working on a previous quilt order.

On December 9th of 2011, Benny’s dad was diagnosed with cancer.  Because he was spending so much time in the hospital being treated, I decided to make a photo quilt for Benny so that his father could be with him, even when he wasn’t at home.

Benny’s daddy lost his fight with cancer 5 weeks after he was diagnosed.  He was 34 years old.

My hope is that this quilt gives Benny some comfort when he misses his daddy.

Photo Memory Quilt

My most recent quilt order is a photo memory quilt for VFA-83 The Rampagers (F/A-18 Squadron).  As a departing gift, the Commanding Officer’s Wife (or commonly referred to as The COW)  requested a quilt comprised of squares made by each family in the Squadron.  I received a phone call last year from the woman in charge of making this quilt happen, asking for help.  After a lengthy discussion we came to the conclusion that it would probably be easier on everyone’s part (especially for the artistically shy) and look more cohesive if it was a photo memory quilt instead.

I collected a photo of each family from the Squadron, made them black and white, printed them on photo transfer paper, and ironed them onto white fabric.  We chose a GORGEOUS blue marbled fabric as the sashing and border and then a gold, marbled fabric as the binding.  The back is a plain navy blue Kona cotton and I also added a hanging sleeve at the top of the quilt so that It can be hung on display.

The size of the quilt is 47″ x 57.5″.

I think it’s a gorgeous quilt and I hope The COW absolutely loves it.  A lot of thought and love from the Squadron went into making sure it would be just right.  I hope that conveys.

Let me know if you’d like to have one of these made for you!  I’d love to make more.
