A Sea of Blue

I just finished a custom order for a twin sized quilt.  It’s for a wonderful woman who wanted to get a quilt for her grandson for his big boy bed.  I am thrilled with how gorgeous this quilt turned out and am proud to share the results with you.

The pattern I used (and slightly modified in order to fit a twin bed) is called Sparkling Gemstones and it’s in the Jelly Roll Quilts book by Pam and Nicky Lintott.  The fabric used in the main part of the quilt is Ocean Mist Strip Tease Bun by Island Batiks.  I used coordinating fabric by Island Batiks for the border and a fun batik (that reminds me of both octopus tentacles and carbonation) for the back.  I free motion quilted it in my machine and used a variegated thread in blue, purple and green.

I would like to give a huge shout out to Barbara at  Sarah’s Thimble in Virginia Beach.  She helped me in a quilting emergency (yes, there is such a thing) and found the gorgeous thread that I used for quilting.  I also bought the border and backing fabrics there.
