Hourglass baby quilts

To date, I’ve made two hourglass baby quilts for friends.  I love the simple hourglass design and think it’s a great way to showcase an assortment of fantastic fabrics.  For the blue hourglass quilt I began with 6″ squares which I cut in half, diagonally.  The blue quilt was made using “Chirp” by Katie Hennagir for Robert Kaufman Fabrics and it measues 35″x44 & 1/2″.  For the girly one I began with 5″ squares, using 1 charm pack of  “Eden” by Lila Tueller for Moda Fabrics.  It measures approximately 36″x36″.  I am offering custom versions of these quilts starting at $100.

After finishing quilts I usually have extra fabric left, but not enough to make another normal sized baby quilt.  I made a few doll quilts, which could also be used as stroller quilts or wall hangings, with the left over fabric.  It was also a great way to try out free motion quilting on a “real” project instead of practicing on scraps.  I am offering stock and custom versions of these quilts starting at $25.

While working in our church nursery one Sunday, I spied an adorable quilted, ragged edge purse that one of the babies had their diaper and wipes in.  I studied it, found some similar pictures online and then made my own.  I made quite a few as gifts for friends’ daughters and also made a variation for my own daughter.  Most of the dimensions are 6″x9″ except for Catherine’s which is 8″x8″.  I am offering stock and custom versions of these bags starting at $15.

This is the baby quilt I made for my daughter Catherine.  Granted, she was 8 months old when I made it but better late then never, right?  My friend, who is my quilting mentor, told me about this fabric and as soon as I saw it I knew exactly what I would make with it.  The fabric used in this quilt is “Nicey Jane” by Heather Bailey.  Dimensions are approximately 40″x49″ which is the perfect size for a toddler bed.  The pattern is a “Stacked Coins” pattern by Amanda Jean of crazymomquilts.blogspot.com.  I am offering custom versions of this quilt starting at $125.

Checkerboard Baby Quilt

I refer to this quilt as The Olympics Quilt because I made it during the 2010 Winter Olympics while watching, or in lieu of watching the events.  The sex of the baby was unknown when I made this but it turns out it was a sweet baby girl who was named Eliza.  I think the gorgeous blue and green prints are very lovely for a girl and actually look very Grecian.  The fabric is from Michael Miller, Whimsy collection.  The dimensions are approximately 33″x41″.  I am offering custom versions of this quilt starting at $125.

This was the first quilt I made after deciding that quilting was something I truly wanted to learn how to do.  It’s approximately 36″x45″.  The fabric is all Robert Kaufman.  I am offering custom versions of this quilt starting at $100.
