It’s almost Christmastime!!! Sorry, just had to get that out of my system. Obviously, I’m thrilled that Christmas, and all the awesomeness it brings with it, is right around the corner. I’ve gotten into the Christmas spirit even earlier this year while working on a custom order tree skirt. I need no further excuse to crank up the Christmas music and start making cookies.
This tree skirt is an original design inspired by this quilt by Ashley at Film In the Fridge. The fabrics used are from Michael Miller’s holiday fabric. I also incorporated some mixers from the local fabric store. It’s about 56″ in diameter. There are 4 “layers” to each block. This block style is a take off on a log cabin block, called a “square in square”.
Here are some pictures of the tree skirt while it was being made. The first is of the quilt top once it was finished.
After I attached the back and batting (pin basting method) and quilted it (free motion) I found the middle, and formed the quilt into a perfect circle. My engineer husband helped me do this. It involved a string, pencil and it took 2 people. I then used a 5″ round tupperware container to trace a circle in the middle to cut out, and chose where to cut the straight line up to the circle.
After I got everything cut I bound the whole thing with bias binding that I made with the same fabric I used for the back. I added the ties, 3 total, and then I was finished!
I’m in the process of making a second tree skirt with completely different fabrics. I’ll write about that one as soon as I’m finished with it!

Great job, Kristin……A Christmas Treasure for generations to come!
You made that look easy. I love the fabric choices. Your work is always so crisp. I love it!
It is beautiful! You inspire me to get creative!
It looks so beautiful, I can’t wait to see it real life! I really had a great time working on this with you. I will send you a picture when we have it under the tree this year!
Thanks so much!!
